Mexico 2050: The World´s Fifth Largest Economy
According to multiple projections of international agencies, surprisingly enough, in 2050 Mexico will be the fifth largest economy in the world.
Mexican economist Macario Schettino, and several studies from firms like Goldman Sachs and PriceWaterhouseCoopers have mentioned this before, suggesting that Mexico’s next destination is situated in a place of great importance worldwide.
In this new scenario, it is expected that some economies that are in the top places, such as the cases of England, France, Italy and Spain, to mention a few, will disappear from the list of the most powerful economies. This is due to change in the population pyramids of these countries, as they are having a very significant population decline.
Mexico, according to these projections, will be the world’s fifth largest economy. In the new scenario new faces as Brazil, India, and Indonesia will appear, with economies growing at astonishing rates, due to both the population increases in these countries and economic advances that have been shown in recent years.
If there are so many studies indicating otherwise, why does it seem that Mexico is always at the bottom of the list? Could it be that it is all about perception? As we’ve discussed before, there is a hidden context for Mexico.
This is Mexico’s destiny, even though we sometimes try to diminish Mexico’s role in the world because of immigration, violence, and many other problems that often arise when we talk about our neighbor. Imagine what could be possible for the United States and Mexico if everyone joins in contributing to the success and growth of the country instead of focusing on its problems.
What could be possible for a “North American block” if we play for Mexico knowing that it is destined to be the fifth economy in the world? How would your life and contributions be like if you live Mexico from this place in the world’s economy? Would it make sense to relate with Mexico’s greatness?

Mexico is not on the bottom of the list its 11th biggest economy right behind Italy
btw its not that bad in Mexico been living 2years its great ps happy American living in Mexico
Take a look to the human Development Index of the United Nations and you will see that Mexico is way better than China, India, Brazil and Russia… plus it has a large population that is growing economically more than the developed world… for that simply reason is OBVIOUS Mexico will be a power to considerate in 2050.
Mexico is underrated mostly because of the bad propaganda that americans have made of the country world wide plus sectors in Mexico, mainly from the left which find convenient for their interest that Mexico stays poor and underdeveloped. But Mexico is one of the largest economies in the world since a time and has far better standards of living that India, Thailand, Turkey, Russia, China, Brazil, the whole Africa and the middle east. Is just a matter of perception and a bad propaganda.
Mexico will surpass italy in GDP in 3 years, it is already larger than Spain and Canada. Income has grown significantly within it´s population, immigration to the U.S. is one fifth of what it used to be only 8 years ago. So it is all about perception, it has the 2nd largest trade surplus with the U.S. after china, So we can do the math. It will be looked at differently in less than ten years when it´s economy surpasses england and france. Young population is another factor, most developed nations are aging. Viva Mexico!
i don’t think that is going to be the case at all.
